Our favourite new board games - part 1

Don't dust off the old board games this winter. Get a new one. Here are some of the latest releases which have caught our eyes:

Downfall

Ok, this one isn't exactly new. It was around a few years ago made by MB games. Now it's been reproduced by Hasbro. Downfall is a game of gears, twists and turns, and strategy. Players take turns using their game key to turn one gear at a time, with the aim being to get all 10 of their tokens down through the gears and into their chute first to win. Players need to be strategic and think ahead! Every move could actually help their opponent on the other side of the game unit. While players try to outwit each other, they can practice valuable skills in strategic planning, critical thinking, and visual reasoning. This game was reviewed by Mensa for Kids.

Rubik's Race

Each player slides their tile trying to recreate the Rubik's pattern and be the first to drop the divider on their completed side of the board. A game for 2 players. 

Logo What Am I?

The 'no-questions' version of the “Logo” board game. Describe, draw and guess the brands and products shown on the cards. The first to reach the center of the board wins. 3-6 players, age 8+. 

Rubik's Flip

The fast moving strategy game with only 8 moves per player. Place a tile onto the grid then flip one of your opponent's. It sounds simple, but is a challenge to master. The winner is the first player to place 3 tiles of the same colour in a row which cannot be flipped.

Staccups

Speed and hand/eye co-ordination are needed, in this fast, frantic stacking game. Race your opponent to clear all of your cups. If the base colour of your cup, matches the top colour of one on the podium then stack it quickly. Your opponent may be quicker, and your chance has gone, but keep alert for the next one!
