Fingerlings Untamed
These dinos do pretty much the same stuff as their cutesy counterparts: they react to your touch and can make up to 40 different sounds and movements. But one important difference is their two modes of play. In untamed mode, these little buddies will roar, hiss and chomp. Taming the beasts is easy—just pet them gently and they’ll nuzzle and purr to the touch. There are 4 in the range: Blaze (orange), Stealth (green), Fury (blue) and Razor (purple). They're priced at £16.99 each.
Crate Creatures
Each of the four Crate Creatures feature over 40 different monster grunts and things, accessories, a book, and come in what may be one of the coolest packagings in a while. To open it, you take the included “crowbar” and pop the lock off the front. Once you remove that, you use the same crowbar to open the crate, and the creature flies out from being spring-loaded inside. This is unboxing on another level — and yeah, sure, it says the name of the Creature on the crate, but it was still fun to see their face when that creature popped out. Once you get the Crate Creature out, there is tons of more playability. Tongues get pulled; they vibrate; they even record a few seconds of dialogue and say it back in a monster voice.
Grumblies
These toys, from the makers of Pomsies, are a refreshing entry into the category because they aren’t all sunshine and daisies. Grumblies are, in fact, designed to “melt down” in a kind of comic anger if you shake, poke, or flip them. What does a meltdown entail? Vigorous vibration and guttural noises are among the 40+ different kinds of reactions that Grumblies can feel.
FurReal Munchin Rex
Munchin’ Rex is a baby Tyrannosaurus that kids are supposed to take care of. It comes with plastic treats and a bottle that, when inserted into Rex’s mouth, can produce a “yummy” or “yucky” reaction. Those are among his more than 35 different sound and motion combinations, as are hopping and begging for treats (when he’s hungry) and sound effects meant to sound like a prehistoric jungle. In addition to his mouth, Rex has sensors on his head that react to touch and being waved at. And, unlike those Jurassic Park dinosaurs, there’s no chance Rex grows up to devour you, which is nice.
Fugglers
If your kids are giving their Hatchimals a major eye-roll, they’re probably in the market for the new creepy Fuggler. These Fugglers (which stands for ‘Funny Ugly Monster’ but we don’t see how) are said to be one of the must-haves of the year. There are dozens of these creepy little devils to choose from and they’re perfect for any kid who’s over the cute and cuddly stuffed animals that are being marketed to them all day long!
