Pomsies
Pomsies look like literal
balls of fur with catlike features: pointed ears, giant eyes, a tiny nose and a
mouth completely hidden by fur. They’re designed to be cute. Instead of a
torso, Pomsies have an adjustable, pose-able tail that allows kids to attach
them to virtually anything: belt loops, backpacks, wrists, ankles.
But Pomsies are more than balls of fur you
can move. They react to certain stimuli, purring when held and “fed” (when a
kid pinches his or he fingers and presents them to the area under their noses
where the mouth would be). Their huge eyes also glow different colours
depending on their mood. Yes, they have moods.
Fingerlings Unicorn
Functionally, these unicorn
Fingerlings are similar to their monkey forebears. They turn their heads, make
cute noises, and respond to noise, motion, and touch. However, they don’t swing
by their tails on account of the lack of a plastic, hook-shaped one, opting
instead for flowing, rainbow-colored unicorn tails that match the mane on their
heads. They are, however, still compatible with official
Fingerlings playsets, so your imaginative kid can create a world where monkeys
and unicorns are friends!
Fingerlings Hugs
The Hugs line of
the popular Fingerlings toy eschews the plastic exterior of the original
for a soft, cuddly plush toy with similar interactive features. Bella and
Boris, the two available Hugs, are about a foot and a half long from head to
toe, with arms that are long enough to wrap around your kid’s neck and velcro
on their hands to keep them there. Hugs have different reactions to being
thrown, swung around, and rocked to sleep, but the coolest feature is a button
in the left ear. When held it will record whatever is said and, when released,
it will repeat that back in its higher-pitched “voice.” It’s a silly but
entertaining feature, part of what sets these oversized Fingerlings apart from
the competition.
FurReal Tiger
FurReal’s interactive
Roarin’ Tyler the Playful Tiger has over 100 sounds and movements, including
growls and purrs, and responds to being petted, held, or spoken to. To generate
his titular roar, kids just need to let one out themselves.
Georgie
Not only is Georgie an
electronic dog but he’s a dancing machine. With over 100 voice-activated
interactions, this super-soft pup will bust-a-move on command, as well as sit,
stay, and play tug-o-war with his own rope toy. He comes with a neck
bandana and a hang tag that can be repurposed as a collar.
Scruff a Luvs
When buying a Scruff-a-Luv, they arrive as a sad
ball of matted pink fur, but once they’re washed, dried, brushed and loved, it
becomes apparent what type of pet they really are (either a puppy, kitten or
rabbit). Only by saving a Scruff-a-Luv is it possible to find out. Each
Scruff-a-Luv comes with a collar and tag to give them a name; a brush to style
them; a cute hair clip and an adoption certificate.
Cry Babies
Poor
little Cry Babies just need someone to love! Give them their dummy and a cuddle
to stop them from crying. Cry Babies cry real water and make realistic baby
noises. All the Cry Babies are articulated and come with their own individual
animal print onesie.
Little Live Pets
These plush toy versions of household pets come with
adoption certificates, a la Cabbage Patch kids, to help kids feel more of a
personal connecting. They have six different play modes and over 35 different
sound responses to motions like head pats, stomach rubs, and feedings with the
included bottle. Also included: eyes that close and open, a head that moves,
and a stomach that goes in and out to stimulate breathing. Little Live Pets
also respond to tickling and kissing and even come in a pet carrier-style box.
Little Live Pets Snuggles My Dream Puppy
Perfect for snuggling, My
Dream Puppy from Little Live Pets feels (and barks) like a tiny newborn pup. It
also has wide, expressive eyes that open and close when you pinch her nose or
feed her a bottle of milk.
Grumblies
These toys, from the makers of Pomsies, are a
refreshing entry into the category because they aren’t all sunshine and
daisies. Grumblies are, in fact, designed to “melt down” in a kind of comic
anger if you shake, poke, or flip them. What does a meltdown entail? Vigorous
vibration and guttural noises are among the 40+ different kinds of reactions
that Grumblies can feel.
Rainbocorns
Rainbocorns is a new range of collectibles
that combines some of the year’s hottest trends, including unboxing, unicorns,
and sequins. Every Rainbocorn comes in a big,
bright pink mystery reusable egg. There are 12 different Rainbocorns based on
six animals and every animal comes in two designs. Children can collect them
all – Puppycorns, Kittycorns, Hamstercorns, Bunnycorns, Unicorns and
Monkeycorns, along with their 12 unique sequin surprises which reveal what they
love. Each Rainbocorn also comes with a baby Boo-Boocorn – a tiny collectible
baby hidden in a secret egg for another layer of surprise. There are over 20
Boo-Boocorns to collect, including the rare twin Boo-Boocorns.
